- Empty it and unplug it a day ahead so it can defrost. Prop the door open and put a towel down.
- Tape the doors shut the morning of, or tell us and we’ll do it.
- Built in or water line hooked up? Have the water shut off and the line disconnected before we come.
Where it goes
The refrigerant in a fridge, freezer or AC has to be recovered by a certified technician before the metal can be recycled; it can’t just go to the landfill with the rest of a load. That handling costs extra wherever it’s done, and it’s what the refrigerant fee covers.

How much does fridge removal cost?
One fridge starts at $109: the $59 single-item price plus $50 refrigerant fee. Fridge and a window AC starts at $189: the 1/8 trailer price, $89 plus 2 × $50 refrigerant fee.
Why is there a refrigerant fee?
Fridges, freezers and AC units hold refrigerant that has to be recovered before they are recycled, and that costs money per unit. The $50 fee is each. It's the only add-on for these.
Does a mini fridge count?
Yes. Anything that keeps things cold has refrigerant, so a mini fridge or wine cooler carries the same $50 fee as a full-size fridge.
